Suntans on the Sunloungers

sharonzavlin

Hiiiiiiii I'm back! And congrats to those who correctly guessed it-- en la semana pasada, mi amigos y yo fuimos a Ibiza, una isla de Espana.

For my english readers (so everyone haha; hi mom and dad, and all my friends who have forgotten spanish lol), let me translate: this past week, my friends and I visited Ibiza, an island off the coast of Spain. It was a phenomenal trip, with so much sun (a break from the rain in London) and it was relaxing too! I am so excited to share everything in my blog today, but am sad simultaneously because there are only two weeks remaining of my experience in England.

That being said, let me share my experiences with you all, coming directly from my new travel notebook I picked up in Ibiza. We decided to do Ibiza very last minute, since we finished up uni last week and decided, point blank, that who doesn't deserve a three day break from a break? As humans we're always moving and moving and moving to keep up with the fast paced world spinning around us, so we decided to let it spin while sunbathing near a pool and looking at the gorgeous views.

One of the shocking things that deserves a special shoutout is Ellen's hotel discovery, which was truly a standout in it's own right. If you're ever visiting Ibiza, I would highly recommend the Vibra Jabeques ApartHotel. Not only is the location incredible and the price relatively affordable, but the views are among the best I've ever seen in my life. There will be a picture waiting for your admiration down below, so definitely check them out! All I've got to say is if a picture is worth a thousand words, then I should cut this entry short, because this view is going to handle the word count completely on its own:).

Thursday morning, I woke up at the ripe time of 7:04 due to the abundance of sun present, which shown right through our curtains. I've got to say that while I love London more than life itself, it's really made my tolerance for sunlight go down to a 1 out of ten, and I was beginning to worry I would develop Brit's intolerance for tanning as well. I used the extra morning (which many can test was definitely a first for me) to go grocery shopping for some brekkie. That was definitely a challenge, since everything was in spanish and very few people spoke English at all. I had to really put myself back in Senora Antillera's AP Spanish language class junior year of high school. But I semi passed at conversing with the cashier and even a few locals, since believe it or not there are very few people under the age of 75 who show up to the grocery store before 10 am on a Thursday.

After breakfast, we hit the beach and pool. And aside from some clubbing and boat adventures, that's pretty much where we stayed for the remainder of the trip. The water was amazing, the sun was shining, and it was perfect weather. In short, the hardest part was getting back on the flight home. We went clubbing Thursday night which was a blast, but -- and I know this will be an unpopular opinion -- I personally prefer London bars. The music is just too loud, and the drinks are just too expensive, for Ibiza to be a sustainable partying lifestyle. Unless you're well....Miley Cyrus or some other celebrity, in which case I totally get it. But unless you're putting gold pebbles in my drinks, there is absolutely no reason a vodka cranberry should cost 20 euros. I'll make that at home for 5 dollars, thank you very much. I did feel very fancy and exclusive though, so at least there's that.

On Friday, we did much of the same, followed up by a boat party extravaganza. I'd say this one was a mixed bag. It was one of the coolest experiences getting to dance with a bunch of different people from different countries and staring at breathtaking views. But at the same time I'd say a general rule is that an open bar and high tide winds don't really mix, and maybe the boat company should keep that in mind the next time there's a wind warning. LOL we were welcomed by the prior group of people yelling "save yourselves", with treacherous stories of people throwing up off the ship and spilling drinks all over. As terrified as we were, we were in luck since the weather did get a bit better. So everything ended up fine, but it was a bit chaotic getting around the ship as it swung from side to side. Friday for lunch, we also tried a Tapas bar, which was insanely cool. As much as its overrated to pay 20 euros for a vodka cranberry, I'm convinced I would go to the depths of despair for a good glass of spanish white Sangria. It was amazing, and really rounded out the experience.

I wish I could say that getting back to London was also a great experience, but I would say it was about as smooth sailing as the boat party. The Stansted Express train home from the airport was closed, and it had been replaced with a rail replacement bus and train, together which were a 1.5 hour trip. Halfway through the bus route, the bus overheated and broke down. What happens when the replacement bus needs to be replaced? The bus driver had to call for another bus, which came about 30 minutes later. Adding that to the journey and other delays, we got back home about 9 hours after we left in the morning, which was probably one of the longest days of traveling of my life. I made a joke to another girl that I could have taken a flight back to Chicago that would have taken the same amount of time today's traveling took lol.

But despite that, the trip was a huge high for me. I didn't take any pills in Ibiza, as the song goes, but I did get quite the few days of relaxation and a spanish refresh also. I think it's inspired me to do some spanish lessons independently once I'm home, so I installed DuoLingo and will be working on getting that back.

Volvere tan pronto con my proxima blog.

[In other, more understandable words: That's all for today, because I need a lot of sleep after my trip with my friends. But it's my recommendation that you guys also go travel this summer or when you can. I returned from Ibiza with a nice tan, and you guys can too, so there's no time like the present. Thanks for reading today's blog, and I hope y'all have a great day/night. I'll be back so soon with my next blog.]

Con mucho amor y hasta luego/With much love and see you soon,

Sharon
